The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has unveiled scheme guidelines aimed at funding testing facilities, infrastructure, and institutional support under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. With a total budget of Rs 200 crore allocated until FY 2025-26, the initiative focuses on enhancing the quality, sustainability, and safety standards of Green Hydrogen (GH2) production and trade.

According to MNRE's statement, the scheme will prioritize the development of robust quality and performance testing facilities. These facilities are crucial for ensuring the reliability and safety of processes involved in Green Hydrogen production across its value chain. The scheme will also identify gaps in existing testing infrastructure for components, technologies, and processes related to Green Hydrogen and its derivatives.

Key components of the scheme include the establishment of new testing facilities and the modernization of existing ones to meet stringent operational standards. The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) has been designated as the Scheme Implementation Agency (SIA), responsible for overseeing the effective execution of the initiative.

The National Green Hydrogen Mission, initiated in January 2023, aims to achieve self-reliance in clean energy and aligns with India's broader goals of promoting sustainable development. With a substantial outlay of Rs 19,744 crore until FY 2029-30, the mission seeks to lead India's transition towards clean energy while setting an example for global clean energy initiatives.
