MSEDCL and GEAPP Ink Deal to Upgrade Maharashtra Power Grid

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has entered into a partnership with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) to enhance grid digitalisation and support Maharashtra’s transition towards cleaner energy systems. The two organisations signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) on October 7, 2025, outlining plans to modernise the state’s power distribution network through advanced digital and analytical technologies.

Under this collaboration, MSEDCL and GEAPP aim to integrate innovative solutions such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and real-time analytics to improve grid reliability, efficiency, and asset management. The project will employ digital tools for predictive maintenance, demand forecasting, and load flow analysis, enabling more effective management of electricity distribution across the state.

A key component of the initiative involves the incorporation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), designed to stabilise power supply, manage peak demand, and facilitate the integration of distributed renewable energy sources. By using digital infrastructure and energy storage, MSEDCL expects to reduce transmission and distribution losses while improving overall service quality for consumers.

According to MSEDCL Chairman and Managing Director Lokesh Chandra, the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to adopting next-generation grid technologies that support a reliable and sustainable energy future. GEAPP’s India Vice President, Saurabh Kumar, noted that the collaboration will help build a more resilient, data-driven, and responsive power system for Maharashtra.
