New Power Substations Planned To Boost Nellore Supply
The Minister inaugurated a 32/11 kV substation in Panchedu village in the Kovur constituency, built at a cost of around Rs 33.7 million. He said another substation in Kovur will be launched with an investment of over Rs 30 million, while a new Divisional Engineer office will be constructed at a cost of around Rs 40 million.
Ravi Kumar alleged that the previous government caused financial losses of nearly Rs 300 billion to the power sector, adding that corrective measures are being implemented. He said the current government aims to reduce the per-unit cost of electricity by 1.19 paise and reiterated that providing reliable and quality power to farmers and the public remains a key priority.
The Minister also dismissed criticism of the Visakhapatnam DISCOM and said the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has outstanding power dues of around Rs 5–6 billion. He further announced plans to establish 10–12 additional substations in Nellore to ensure uninterrupted supply and address low-voltage issues.
Highlighting broader development goals, Ravi Kumar said the state government aims to create 2 million jobs. Recruitment for 6,000 police positions is underway, and discussions are planned to fill 500 Assistant Engineer posts.
Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy described the new substations as a positive step towards strengthening local infrastructure, while MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy said power infrastructure works worth nearly Rs 100 million, including two substations and the Divisional Engineer office, are being implemented in the constituency. She also noted that electricity charges for aqua farmers have been reduced by Rs 1.50 per unit and that local development works worth around Rs 9.33 million have been initiated.
Local leaders and officials welcomed the new projects, saying they would help address long-standing power supply issues and support economic growth in the region.
