NGEL and SCCL Sign MoU to Develop Renewable Energy Projects

NTPC Green Energy (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) to jointly explore and develop a wide portfolio of renewable energy projects. The MoU was exchanged in Hyderabad in the presence of N Balram, Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL, along with senior representatives from both organisations.

The partnership aims to leverage NGEL’s experience in utility-scale renewable energy development and SCCL’s operational presence across coal mining regions to identify viable clean-energy opportunities. Both entities will work together on the planning and deployment of solar, wind and hybrid renewable energy systems, including configurations supported by battery or other energy-storage technologies to enable round-the-clock supply.

The scope of collaboration extends further to emerging areas such as green hydrogen and its derivatives, with the objective of supporting industrial decarbonisation and advancing India’s long-term low-carbon targets. Opportunities in green mobility solutions may also be pursued to promote cleaner transport systems within and around SCCL’s operational zones.

This strategic cooperation reflects a broader shift within India’s energy landscape, with public-sector organisations increasingly diversifying towards sustainable energy sources. The NGEL–SCCL partnership is expected to contribute to the expansion of renewable capacity, improved energy security and accelerated adoption of future-ready clean-energy technologies.
