NLCIL establishes unit for green project execution

NLC India announced that it had established a wholly-owned subsidiary, NLC India Green Energy (NIGEL), to oversee the implementation of green projects. According to a statement by NLC India (NLCIL), NIGEL would handle the planning, participation in upcoming renewable energy tenders, as well as the execution and commissioning of green energy projects.

NLCIL Chairman and Managing Director, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, stated that NIGEL aims to achieve a capacity of 5 GW by 2030 and intends to make significant contributions to reducing carbon emissions. The public sector enterprise had previously set up another wholly-owned subsidiary, NLC India Renewables Ltd, for the purpose of asset monetisation.

Currently, NIGEL is responsible for 2 GW of renewable energy projects that are under implementation. These projects, including a 600 MW solar power project in Gujarat and an 810 MW solar photovoltaic power project in Rajasthan, will be overseen by NIGEL. The company's headquarters are located in Chennai, and it is expected to commence business operations in the near future, according to the statement.
