NTPC Green Wins 80MW Battery Project in Kerala

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has won a cumulative 80 megawatt (MW) / 320 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage project in Kerala. The win follows an e-reverse auction conducted by NHPC Limited on May 21, 2025, under tariff-based competitive bidding with viability gap funding support.

NGEL has secured two standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects:
  • 40MW / 160MWh at the Pothencode Substation at a tariff of Rs 457,000 per MW per month
  • 40MW / 160MWh at the Sreekantapuram Substation at a tariff of Rs 434,000 per MW per month
These projects are part of NHPC’s tender to develop 125MW / 500MWh interstate transmission system (InSTS)-connected BESS in Kerala. The initiative aims to enhance grid stability and support renewable energy integration in the region.

The letter of award for both projects is currently awaited. NGEL’s success reinforces its leadership in utility-scale energy storage and further supports India’s energy transition goals.
