State-owned power major NTPC Ltd announced on Thursday that it has signed an initial agreement with the Government of Gujarat to explore opportunities in both conventional and non-conventional energy sectors.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, and Gujarat’s Minister for Finance, Energy and Petrochemicals Kanubhai Desai, along with other senior dignitaries. The signing took place during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference held in Mehsana.

The agreement seeks to strengthen cooperation in the development of thermal, hydro, solar, wind, and emerging clean energy technologies, further enhancing Gujarat’s role in India’s energy transition.

NTPC, India’s largest integrated power utility, currently contributes nearly one-fourth of the country’s total electricity generation. The company has an installed capacity of over 83 GW, with an additional 30.9 GW under construction, including 13.3 GW of renewable energy projects.

In line with India’s net-zero carbon emission goals, NTPC is targeting 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. The utility’s diverse portfolio includes thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power plants, reflecting its commitment to delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy to the nation.

In addition, NTPC has expanded into new business areas such as electric mobility, battery and pumped hydro storage, waste-to-energy, nuclear power, and green hydrogen solutions, positioning itself at the forefront of India’s clean energy transition.
