NTPC’s Western Region II is planning to add 4,000 megawatts of new generation capacity across its network in the coming years, senior officials said at the 29th Regional Management Committee meeting held in Raipur on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Diwakar Kaushik, Chairman of the Western Region II RMC, Regional Executive Director for Western Region II and Chief Executive Officer of NTPC Sail Power Company Limited.

The forum brought together project heads and senior executives from key NTPC stations, including Lara, Sipat, Khargone, Korba and Gadarwara, along with the Chief Executive Officer of the Jhabua power station. Discussions centred on capacity expansion plans and operational coordination across the region.

Kaushik highlighted NTPC’s role as a major driver of India’s power and infrastructure development, noting that the company’s installed generation capacity has now crossed 85 gigawatts. He said Western Region II currently contributes around 10,100 megawatts to the national grid, making the proposed addition of 4,000 megawatts a significant step in meeting rising electricity demand across multiple states.

The meeting focused on implementing the capacity expansion in a phased and efficient manner, with emphasis on reliability, timely execution and operational readiness at each project location. Senior officials reviewed strategic priorities and stressed the importance of coordinated planning among stations to ensure smooth delivery.

Participants reiterated their commitment to sustained growth, system stability and strengthening power supply infrastructure, as NTPC continues to support India’s broader energy security and development objectives.
