Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture between NLC India Limited (51 per cent) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (49 per cent), has successfully completed the “TG Rolling & Synchronisation” of Unit-2 (660 MW) of its 1,980 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Project. The unit was synchronised with the 765 kV grid at 00:05 hours today in a single attempt, well ahead of schedule following the completion of the steam blowing milestone.

This synchronisation represents a significant milestone in the path toward Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) and highlights NUPPL’s commitment to supplying 31.68 million units of reliable and sustainable electricity.

Commenting on the achievement, Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD of NLC India and Chairman of NUPPL, credited the coordinated efforts of NUPPL, NLCIL, UPRVUNL, the Ministry of Coal, and project contractors for enabling this success.

With Unit-1 already operational since December 2024, the successful synchronisation of Unit-2 marks another major step in project completion, with Unit-3 expected to be commissioned in FY 2025–26.

Located in Ghatampur Tehsil, Kanpur Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh, the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project comprises three supercritical thermal units of 660 MW each, totalling 1,980 MW. The project’s main plant boiler package is delivered by M/s LMBPL, the turbine by M/s GEPSIPL, and the Balance of Plant by M/s BGRESL. Power supply from the project is allocated with 75.12 per cent (1,487.28 MW) going to Uttar Pradesh and 24.88 per cent (492.72 MW) to Assam.

In parallel, NUPPL is progressing on the development of its fuel source—the Pachwara South Coal Block in Dumka District, Jharkhand—ensuring a sustainable coal supply for the plant.

The project’s advanced design incorporates supercritical technology and complies with stringent environmental norms through the use of Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems, ensuring Zero Liquid Discharge.

With Unit-2 now synchronised, NUPPL is in the final phase of commissioning activities before declaring full commercial operation.
