Odisha Aims to Be Green Energy Exporter by 2047

Odisha has unveiled an ambitious roadmap under its Vision 2036 and 2047 plans to become a net exporter of green energy, leveraging its strong solar potential and strategic partnerships to accelerate the clean energy transition.
A major contributor to this effort is Tata Power through its solar arm, TP Solar Ltd., which operates India’s largest single-location solar module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The plant features advanced technologies such as TOPCon and Mono PERC, producing high-efficiency solar cells and modules that support long-term energy resilience and Odisha’s growing clean energy demand.
To promote grassroots solar adoption, Tata Power has partnered with the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) on initiatives including awareness drives, community engagement, and affordable financing. Its Solaroof programme offers systems starting at Rs 2,499 for a 1kW setup, making solar accessible to middle-income families, further bolstered by the PM Surya Ghar Yojana and robust state-level support.
In a major commitment, Tata Power aims to install over 300,000 rooftop solar systems across Odisha within three years. Its “Ghar Ghar Solar” campaign, launched in Bhubaneswar, provides 25-year warranty-backed solutions tailored for domestic users.
In parallel, the company is investing in green workforce development. Through the Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI), it plans to open four training centres—one in each Odisha distribution zone—to train 12,000 youths in solar installation, maintenance, and operations over the coming year.
Industry experts highlight that from advanced solar manufacturing in Tamil Nadu to rooftop deployment and vocational training in Odisha, Tata Power is playing a central role in advancing Odisha’s clean energy agenda. The state is positioning itself as a renewable energy leader in line with national sustainability targets.
