Oswal Pumps has secured an order worth Rs 1.80 billion under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM), marking a significant milestone for the company in India’s renewable energy and agricultural infrastructure segment.
The PM-KUSUM scheme is a flagship government initiative aimed at promoting the use of solar energy in agriculture through the deployment of solar-powered irrigation pumps and decentralised solar power systems. The programme seeks to enhance farmers’ income, improve irrigation reliability and reduce dependence on conventional grid electricity and diesel-based solutions.
Under the latest order, Oswal Pumps will supply and install solar-powered pump systems across rural areas, helping farmers gain access to dependable and cost-effective irrigation. Solar pumps offer a sustainable alternative to diesel and grid-powered pumps, particularly in regions facing erratic power supply, while also lowering operational costs for farmers.
The deployment of solar pumps is expected to contribute to reduced carbon emissions by cutting fossil fuel usage, while aligning with India’s broader clean energy and climate commitments. In addition to environmental benefits, the initiative supports sustainable agricultural practices by ensuring uninterrupted water availability for crops.
For Oswal Pumps, the Rs 1.80 billion order strengthens its position in the fast-growing solar pump segment and adds visibility to its order book. The win reflects confidence in the company’s manufacturing capabilities, execution expertise and ability to deliver large-scale renewable energy projects under government-backed schemes.
Beyond energy savings, the project is expected to generate wider economic benefits. Improved access to reliable irrigation can boost agricultural productivity, enhance farm incomes and build resilience in drought-prone and power-deficient regions.
PM-KUSUM continues to emerge as a key driver of rural solar adoption, creating opportunities across the renewable energy value chain. Large orders such as this indicate sustained momentum in the scheme’s implementation and growing adoption of solar solutions in Indian agriculture.
