Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated 184 newly built type-seven multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament (MPs) at Baba Kharak Singh Marg in New Delhi. Addressing the gathering, he said that 21st-century India is both development-focused and conscious of its responsibilities.

Since 2014, around 350 new MP residences have been completed, compared to none built for Lok Sabha MPs between 2004 and 2014. Modi noted that MPs from various states live together in these complexes, symbolising the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat. The four towers have been named after major Indian rivers — Krishna, Godavari, Kosi, and Hooghly — signifying unity and life for millions across the nation.

The new complex will house over 180 MPs, reducing government rental expenses. Modi referred to his recent Kartavya Bhavan inauguration remarks, pointing out that ministries operating from rented buildings incur about Rs 15 billion annually. The inadequate housing situation for MPs had also contributed to higher public spending.

He praised the engineers and workers for their contribution, highlighting that the old accommodations were often in disrepair, causing inconvenience to MPs. He stressed that when MPs are free from personal housing issues, they can better focus on addressing public concerns.

The residential complex integrates solar-enabled infrastructure and sustainable design, aligning with India’s renewable energy achievements. It features energy conservation measures, waste management systems, and is fully accessible for persons with disabilities.

Each unit offers about 5,000 sq ft of carpet area, with dedicated office space, staff quarters, and a community centre. All structures are earthquake-resistant and equipped with modern security systems, ensuring safety and functionality for parliamentary work.
