PM Inaugurates Rs 36 bn Powergrid Projects for Rajasthan Solar
One project comprises the transmission system for evacuation of power from renewable energy zones in Rajasthan with capacity of 20 gigawatt (GW), including the 765/400/220 kV Bhadla-III substation and the 765 kV double-circuit Bhadla-III–Sikar-II transmission line. The facilities are designed to carry output from newly developed renewable energy zones and to reduce curtailment by facilitating long-distance transfer. Powergrid led the engineering, procurement and construction of the substation and the line.
The other scheme is the Transmission System Strengthening Scheme for evacuation of solar energy zones with capacity of eight point one GW and comprises the 765 kV double-circuit Bhadla-II–Sikar-II second transmission line. The addition of the second circuit is expected to increase throughput from Rajasthan solar clusters and to provide redundancy for grid stability. This line complements existing corridors serving the Bhadla region.
The Bhadla area hosts one of the world's largest solar parks with capacity exceeding two point two GW. As of 15 February 2026, Powergrid has commissioned and is operating 290 substations, more than 184,370 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 602,016 mega volt ampere (MVA) of transformation capacity across the country. The expansion is intended to enable timely evacuation of variable renewable energy and to support national targets for clean power. Officials said the projects are critical to unlocking new generation and to strengthening interstate power transfers.
