On 22 September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Arunachal Pradesh and laid the foundation for two hydro power projects with a total capacity of 426 MW. Both projects will be carried out by the state-owned North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO).
The projects are the Heo Hydro Electric Project (240 MW) and the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (186 MW), both of which are developed by NEEPC O, a subsidiary of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited.
The two projects, with a combined estimated cost of over Rs 37 million, are being developed in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh government. The Heo Hydro Electric Project, located in the Siyom sub-basin of Shi Yomi district, will produce around 1000 MUs of power annually. The Tato-I Hydro Electric Project will generate about 803 MUs annually.
In another development, the cabinet meeting was conducted at Miao in Changlang District, rather than the capital city, Itanagar, as part of the state's 'Cabinet Aapke Dwar' initiative, aimed at bringing government closer to the people.
The government also announced plans to amend rules for conducting Gram Panchayat elections to make the process more efficient.
