Power Mech Wins 1 GWh BESS Order in West Bengal

Power Mech Projects has recently announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, PM Green Private Limited, has secured a contract for setting up a 1 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) from West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited. The project also includes a greenshoe option for an additional 1 GWh of storage capacity.

Awarded under a tender floated by the Department of Power, Government of West Bengal, the project will be developed on a Build, Own and Operate model with a 100 per cent off-take guarantee from WBSEDCL. The scope of work covers design, financing, engineering, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of a 250 MW/1,000 MWh BESS at the Goaltore Substation in Paschim Medinipur.

The greenshoe option ???????????es an additional 250 MW/1,000 MWh BESS to be established at the Durgapur Project campus in Durgapur. Construction is scheduled to be completed within 18 months from the signing of the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement, with a contract tenure of 15 years and a provision for extension of up to five years.

The project is expected to generate revenues of Rs 15.63 billion, rising to Rs 31.26 billion including the greenshoe capacity. The order marks Power Mech Projects' entry into large-scale energy storage solutions, aligning with its renewable energy strategy and India’s growing need for grid-balancing infrastructure as renewable penetration continues to rise.
