POWERGRID Commissions First Ester Oil Transformer
The facility was inaugurated by Chairman and Managing Director Dr R K Tyagi in the presence of senior company officials, POWERGRID said in a statement.
The newly commissioned transformer deploys synthetic ester oil, a next-generation biodegradable and fire-resistant alternative to conventional mineral oil. Designed for high-load performance, the technology reduces environmental and safety risks while aligning with global best practices in sustainable grid infrastructure.
As of 31 December 2025, POWERGRID operates 287 sub-stations, over 181,894 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 594,016 MVA of transformation capacity. The company has maintained an average transmission system availability exceeding 99.84 per cent through extensive use of automation and digital monitoring tools.
