Rain Carbon, Green Graphite Partner on Sustainable Battery Materials
With the country’s electric vehicle fleet projected to grow from 480,000 in 2024 to 21 million by 2040, both companies aim to reduce reliance on newly mined graphite through innovative recycling, purification, and processing technologies. Rain Carbon will leverage its LIONCOAT® carbon precursor materials, while GGT will contribute its proprietary GraphPure™ and GraphRenew™ purification technologies.
Pilot-scale production and testing will take place at Rain Carbon’s Technology Innovation Centre in Hamilton, supported by GGT’s pilot facilities in Kingston and Montreal. By 2030, the project expects to create two new graphite product lines designed to minimise waste, boost production efficiency, and cut carbon emissions—fostering new IP creation and employment opportunities in Canada’s battery materials ecosystem.
Rain Carbon, a subsidiary of Rain Carbon Inc., is a global supplier of carbon-based and chemical products used across essential industries. Green Graphite Technologies, headquartered in Montreal, is advancing sustainable, low-cost purification technologies to produce battery-grade graphite for North America’s gigafactories.
