Renewable Energy India Expo 2026 to Unlock Rs. 28 bn Investment
The association said biogas would be a central focus of this year’s expo, supported by policy measures and rising interest in circular energy systems. The investment pipeline associated with the event represents nearly 12 per cent of the Rs. 237.31 bn GOBARdhan National Circular Bioenergy Scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet in August and effective from September 1, 2026.
The scheme, whose implementation is planned through 2035–36, aims to increase domestic compressed biogas (CBG) production nearly tenfold, attract private investment and develop a circular bioeconomy. Its provisions include an administered CBG price of Rs. 2,110 per MMBtu, assured offtake mandates for compressed natural gas and piped natural gas segments, and capital assistance of up to Rs. 20 mn per tonne per day for greenfield CBG plants.
The Bio-Energy Pavilion, powered by the IBA, will feature 35 per cent more exhibitors than in 2025. It will showcase waste-to-energy systems, CBG technologies, co-digestion models and digital monitoring solutions, with participation from technology companies, startups, investors, developers and policymakers. The pavilion is supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The expo is expected to attract more than 70,000 participants from around the world across bioenergy, solar, wind, hydrogen, e-mobility and energy storage. The IBA said India could generate more than 62 mn t of CBG annually, helping reduce fuel imports, create rural and urban employment and support lower-carbon economic growth. The association represents technology providers, project developers, plant operators, planners, researchers and policy stakeholders in the biogas industry.
