Samsung SDI, KG Mobility Partner On EV Battery Packs
Under the partnership, the two companies will move beyond a traditional buyer-seller relationship to work as strategic partners on the design, testing and validation of battery packs. The packs will use Samsung SDI’s 46-millimetre cylindrical battery cells, with both firms jointly evaluating performance and safety to ensure suitability for next-generation electric vehicles.
The newly developed battery packs are expected to be deployed in upcoming electric vehicle models produced by KG Mobility. The companies have also agreed to maintain a long-term collaboration, sharing insights on global battery market trends and conducting joint research to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving electric mobility landscape.
A core focus of the partnership is Samsung SDI’s 46-series cylindrical battery, which offers high energy density, enabling longer driving ranges and faster charging. The battery uses advanced materials such as nickel, cobalt and aluminium, combined with silicon-carbon technology, to enhance durability and maintain performance over an extended lifespan.
As global automakers increasingly seek batteries that are both efficient and scalable for mass production, competition among battery manufacturers has intensified. Samsung SDI said it plans to make cylindrical batteries a key pillar of its future growth strategy. Through collaboration with KG Mobility, the company aims to position these batteries as a core product alongside its other battery formats.
