SECL, India Post unveil special cover marking Coal India jubilees

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), unveiled an India Post “Special Cover” to commemorate Coal India’s Golden Jubilee and SECL’s Ruby Jubilee, marking 40 years of contribution to India’s energy sector. A Special Cancellation Cachet was also released on the occasion.

The ceremony was attended by P. M. Prasad, Chairman of Coal India Limited, and Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of SECL, along with Functional Directors, the Chief Vigilance Officer, and senior officials from the Chhattisgarh Postal Circle, including Dinesh Kumar Mistry (IPoS), DPS (HQ), Raipur.

Issued in collaboration with the Department of Posts, Chhattisgarh Postal Circle, the Special Cover is a collectible philatelic item that celebrates key milestones in India’s industrial journey. It stands as a tribute to Coal India’s five-decade legacy of powering the nation and SECL’s four decades of innovation and excellence in coal production.

The initiative forms part of the Special Campaign 5.0, a Government of India programme focused on institutional cleanliness, record management, and celebrating public sector achievements.

Since its inception in 1975, Coal India Limited — the world’s largest coal producer — has been the backbone of India’s energy security, meeting over 70 per cent of national coal demand. In its Golden Jubilee year, Coal India achieved record figures in coal production, dispatch, and overburden removal, helping the Indian coal sector reach a historic milestone of 1 billion tonnes of coal production in FY 2024–25.

SECL, one of Coal India’s largest subsidiaries, plays a major role in this success. Operating across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, SECL’s Gevra Mine — the largest coal mine in Asia — is a symbol of operational excellence and advanced technology. Beyond production, SECL is committed to sustainable mining, environmental protection, and community welfare, running extensive CSR initiatives in healthcare, education, skill development, and ecological restoration.

The Special Cover and Cachet embody the shared legacy of Coal India and SECL — organisations that have powered India’s growth with a focus on sustainability, responsibility, and nation-building.
