Serentica and Vardhman Partner on 80 MW Hybrid Project
Under the agreement, Vardhman Textiles will acquire a minimum 26 per cent equity stake in Serentica’s Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), SRIPL 32. The arrangement is intended to provide reliable clean energy to Vardhman Textiles facilities in Himachal Pradesh and support the company’s transition away from more carbon-intensive power sources.
The project will comprise 40 MW of wind capacity in Gadag, Karnataka, and 40 MW of solar capacity in Fatehgarh, Rajasthan. It is expected to achieve a Capacity Utilisation Factor (CUF) of approximately 75 per cent, with 177 mn units of round-the-clock renewable electricity scheduled to be supplied to the facilities.
Serentica said the partnership reflects a broader shift in industrial decarbonisation, in which renewable projects are being designed to deliver dependable power for energy-intensive operations rather than only add generation capacity. The company described Vardhman Textiles as one of the country’s largest cotton spinners.
The clean energy supply is expected to meet approximately 56 per cent of Vardhman Textiles’ power requirements and reduce its carbon footprint by 125,883 MT. Vardhman Textiles Director of Raw Material and Chief Sustainability Officer SK Jhamb said the PDA would mark a significant step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and expanding renewable energy use across the company’s operations.
The company statement also referred to a 27 MW wind-solar hybrid PDA with Serentica as an important milestone in its renewable energy programme. The announcement did not provide a timeline for construction or commissioning of the new 80 MW project, or disclose the value of the planned investment.
