Shakti Pumps (India) has secured an order from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. (MSEDCL) to supply and install 10,000 solar water pumping systems across the state. The contract is valued at Rs 2,359.2 million (mn) including GST, covering pumps with capacities of three horsepower, five horsepower and seven point five horsepower. The award has been made under Maharashtra's Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump Yojana and is intended to expand off grid irrigation options for farmers.

The firm will undertake end to end responsibilities, including designing and manufacturing the pumps, transporting them to required locations and the installation, testing and commissioning of the systems. The agreement specifies a completion window of 60 days from receipt of the work order or Notice to Proceed. This scope places logistical and production demands across the entire state.

The value of the order before GST stands at Rs 2,166.4 mn, reflecting the bulk supply and turnkey services within the contract. Shakti Pumps stated that its promoters, promoter group and group companies have no interest in MSEDCL, underscoring the arm's length nature of the award. The initiative aligns with wider policy efforts to promote decentralised renewable energy solutions for agriculture.

Market reaction was muted as Shakti Pumps shares closed at Rs 468 on the National Stock Exchange on Wednesday, down Rs five or one point zero six per cent. The company will proceed with planning and mobilisation ahead of manufacturing and delivery, while state distributors are expected to coordinate site selection and farmer outreach. The project is likely to provide short term revenue visibility and support the company's order book for the current fiscal period.
