SJVN has awarded a contract to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited for the Sunni Dam hydroelectric project, covering core construction and plant erection. The contract covers construction, supply and erection for the 382 megawatt (MW) Sunni Dam. The project is described as a strategic hydropower addition to the company's portfolio and is expected to contribute to long-term generation capacity. The contract follows a competitive tendering process and aims to expedite project mobilisation, with mobilisation to commence following formal award procedures.

The contract is valued at Rs 8,370 million, equivalent to Rs 8.37 bn and to Rs 837 crore. This value is the converted figure of the announced amount and includes engineering, procurement and construction elements as well as contractual contingencies. The sum covers contingencies and performance guarantees customary for projects of this scale. The financial commitment reflects continuing investment in large-scale hydropower infrastructure and public sector participation in energy development.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited will be responsible for civil and electromechanical works as well as for supply of major equipment, erection, testing and commissioning. The scope is expected to include turbines, generators, transformers and associated balance of plant systems supplied through approved vendors and subcontractors. Project management teams will be established to oversee timelines, safety and compliance, and to integrate supplier activities. The company will coordinate with SJVN for project execution and quality assurance under the contractual framework.

SJVN noted that the project will add 382 MW of hydropower capacity and is intended to support grid stability and renewable energy targets. The award follows statutory approvals and aligns with broader efforts to augment clean energy generation while supporting regional infrastructure development. Both firms will proceed to implement the works in accordance with the project schedule and regulatory requirements, with routine monitoring and reporting. Stakeholders will monitor progress against milestones and statutory conditions until handover.
