SJVN Synchronises First Unit of Buxar Thermal Project

SJVN Limited has announced that the first 660 MW unit of its 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project has been successfully synchronised with the National Grid, marking a major milestone towards the commencement of the commercial operations process.
Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta said the achievement reflects the dedication and tireless efforts of the project team and all stakeholders. He added that the project will play a crucial role in meeting India’s growing energy demand while driving sustained economic growth in Bihar.
Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), emphasised that the synchronisation will enhance SJVN’s overall energy generation capacity and strengthen its portfolio.
The project, located at Chausa in Buxar district, Bihar, is being implemented by SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN. It comprises two units of 660 MW each and is equipped with state-of-the-art supercritical technology to ensure higher efficiency and lower environmental impact.
With an investment of Rs 137.6 billion, the plant is expected to generate nearly 9.83 billion units of electricity annually, of which 85 per cent will be supplied to Bihar.
The project is set to deliver significant economic and social benefits to Bihar and the eastern region by improving power availability and addressing peak-hour shortages.
