Tata Power Commissions 400 kV Tanda-Gonda and Gonda-Basti Lines in UP

Tata Power has commissioned new 400 kV transmission links between Tanda and Gonda and between Gonda and Basti in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, 26 March 2026, to strengthen regional grid stability and support reliable power supply. The newly commissioned lines form part of the company's efforts to enhance high voltage transmission capacity in the state and to facilitate efficient power transfer across districts. The project was completed following technical tests and regulatory clearances and has been energised for commercial operation.

The 400 kV double circuit connections are expected to reduce transmission constraints and support the evacuation of power from generation centres to load centres, thereby improving system resilience. These links are designed to accommodate increased load growth and to enable smoother integration of renewable energy into the regional network, providing additional flexibility to grid operators. The infrastructure also aims to lower congestion-related curtailment and to contribute to more stable voltage profiles across the connected substations.

Operational benefits are likely to include improved reliability of supply for both residential and industrial consumers, reduced frequency and duration of outages and enhanced ability to meet peak demand. By strengthening the transmission corridor, the lines should support economic activity and provide a platform for future investments in distributed generation and demand side management. The commissioning is expected to facilitate better coordination between state utilities and central transmission agencies to optimise power flows.

Tata Power continues to expand its transmission footprint in line with its strategic objectives and to support national and state level targets for energy security and sustainability. The company will monitor performance during initial operations and undertake any fine tuning required to ensure the stability of the system, working with relevant stakeholders. The new links are anticipated to play a key role in meeting the evolving electricity needs of Uttar Pradesh while enabling integration of cleaner energy sources.
