Tata Power Renewable Energy Commissions 190.5 MW FDRE Project
With this commissioning, Tata Power Renewable Energy's total renewable utility capacity reached 12.4 gigawatt (GW). Of this capacity, around 6.9 GW is operational, including 5.6 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind, while close to 5.5 GW is under various stages of implementation and are expected to be commissioned in phases over the next 24 months. These storage and power electronics systems are intended to provide firming, frequency response and reactive power support to the grid. The company signalled that integrating large-scale solar with advanced storage and grid-support technologies enhances the reliability and dispatchability of renewable supply.
Tata Power Renewable Energy is a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company, which is a vertically integrated power company within the Tata Group. The parent company has built a diversified portfolio across the entire power value chain, with total operational and under-construction capacity surpassing 26 GW. In Q1 FY27 the group's consolidated net profit rose 10.95 per cent to Rs 11.76 bn on a 5.63 per cent increase in revenue to Rs 190.51 bn compared with Q1 FY26. The firm noted that the project aligns with its strategy to expand dispatchable renewable capacity.
The company described the Kalasar project as a significant milestone in India's clean energy transition and said it would support multiple state utilities with reliable renewable supply. The scrip traded at Rs 373.30 on the BSE following the announcement. Market commentary accompanying the release indicated that the project will contribute to grid stability through storage and inverter-based services while supporting regional renewable targets.
