Tata Power To Fit Solar And Batteries In 0.1 Million Punjab Homes
Praveer Sinha, chief executive officer and managing director of Tata Power, said the campaign will create a comprehensive ecosystem that links technology, battery storage and accessible financing to boost consumer confidence in clean energy. He noted that Punjab is emerging as an important market for distributed renewables owing to rising electricity demand, greater awareness of sustainability and a preference for long-term energy cost optimisation. The company plans to expand installations across one lakh households in the state over the next three years.
The programme includes a community-driven strand, Mera Gaon, Mera Solar, intended to encourage collective rooftop adoption in villages and semi-urban areas and to raise awareness of economic and environmental benefits. The initiative is presented as complementary to the central government rooftop scheme PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, under which households qualify for subsidies of Rs 30,000 for one kilowatt (kW) systems, Rs 60,000 for two kW systems and up to Rs 78,000 for systems of three kW and above. Tata Power said local engagement and financing support will be central to scaling uptake.
By combining technology, subsidies and community outreach, Tata Power expects the campaign to make clean energy adoption more affordable and to strengthen energy self-reliance at household level. The company intends to leverage innovative installation processes and local partnerships to facilitate deployment and aftersales support. The drive is aimed at easing pressure on the grid and at delivering greater long-term savings to consumers while supporting broader decarbonisation goals.
