Telangana Deputy CM Directs Officials to Raise Thermal Power Generation
Vikramarka reviewed power generation, supply and pending electricity dues at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat in Hyderabad. Officials said average daily thermal generation had reached about 91 mn units, while output touched 118 mn units on a recent day. The Deputy Chief Minister instructed them to raise generation further and work towards the 140 mn-unit daily target.
An alternative coal supply arrangement has been established with Coal India to ensure uninterrupted supplies for two units at the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant. Supplies under the arrangement are scheduled to begin in November. Four units at the plant, each with a capacity of 800 MW, are generating electricity, while the fifth was synchronised with the grid on October 20. Technical and operational issues are being addressed before its commercial operation.
Officials reported that average daily thermal generation from TGGENCO plants rose from 65.90 mn units in 2024-25 to about 76.46 mn units in 2025-26. Generation during the current financial year reached 90.97 mn units as of October 21, representing growth of about 19 per cent over the previous financial year.
Vikramarka also directed officials to prepare proposals for a One-Time Settlement mechanism for pending electricity dues owed by closed industries. Distribution companies were asked to explain settlement options and rules to eligible consumers. Finance officials were instructed to recover dues owed to Singareni Collieries Company, GENCO, TRANSCO and other power organisations, while all departments were told to coordinate to maintain reliable electricity supply.
