EPC contractor TKIL Industries (formerly thyssenkrupp Industries India) has partnered with Swiss manufacturer SoHHytec to set up a green hydrogen plant in India within the next year, a senior company official said.

The collaboration will deploy SoHHytec’s proprietary artificial photosynthesis (photo-electrolysis) technology, which uses renewable energy sources such as solar and wind to produce cost-efficient green hydrogen for industrial applications.

“We are hopeful that within the next 12 months, we will be building a green hydrogen plant with our technology,” said Vivek Bhatia, MD & CEO of TKIL Industries. The company is in discussions with steelmakers, oil marketing companies and other sectors that require green hydrogen.

As part of the deal, TKIL Industries will be SoHHytec’s exclusive partner in India for manufacturing and supplying specialised equipment and machinery, as well as executing green hydrogen projects. The initiative aligns with India’s National Hydrogen Mission, which targets 5 million tonnes of annual capacity by 2030 to cut fossil fuel dependence and boost renewable energy adoption.

Bhatia added that the company is currently expanding its existing facilities, investing Rs 250 million to Rs 500 million each year to increase capacity. A larger investment will be required once space constraints emerge.
