This forecast, recently made by the Central Electricity Authority of India (CEA), raises concerns about the resilience of the state's distribution infrastructure, particularly in Chennai, as the region grappled with nighttime power cuts during the summer months this year.

According to the CEA's state-wise electricity demand forecast, Tamil Nadu is anticipated to witness its highest power demand in April 2024. In recent years, the state has consistently recorded its peak demand during the months of April and May. The projected peak demand for 2024-25 exceeds the highest recorded peak demand this year by approximately 1,419 MW, signifying a substantial increase in electricity consumption.
