The Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) recently opened a new Green Energy Skill Centre in Rohini, Delhi, aimed at equipping youth with practical training in renewable energy technologies. The centre will offer specialized courses in solar PV systems, energy storage, hydro storage, and electrical safety, with the goal of preparing a skilled workforce to support India’s clean energy transition.
The centre was inaugurated by Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), along with Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power. The launch event was attended by senior representatives from MNRE, NITI Aayog, REC, NCVET, and Tata Power Delhi Distribution.
TPSDI, which is recognised by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) as a dual awarding body, offers training programmes aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). Officials noted that TPSDI’s courses are tailored to support national initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar Yojana and contribute meaningfully to India’s sustainable development goals.
To date, TPSDI has trained over 3.43 lakh individuals in areas such as green energy, electrical safety, transmission, power systems, and soft skills. Of these, more than 50,000 belong to affirmative action groups and over 18,000 are women. The institute has delivered training in over 43 locations globally, including countries such as Bhutan, Ethiopia, and Liberia.
Its Green Energy Centres in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu provide hands-on training in solar, wind, hydro systems, and emerging areas like green hydrogen. The Rohini centre, situated at the Cenpeid campus (Tata Power-DDL Training Centre), becomes TPSDI’s 12th hub in India, with eight additional centres planned for the year. This expansion is expected to further strengthen India’s green workforce and bolster national clean energy objectives.
