UltraTech Becomes First Indian Company with 2 GW Green Power Capacity

UltraTech has become the first Indian company to cross 2 GW of captive green power capacity after commissioning a 116.55 MW wind energy project in Barmer, Rajasthan. The Aditya Birla Group flagship also commissioned 10 MW of Waste Heat Recovery System (WHRS) capacity at Sarlanagar Cement Works, its integrated manufacturing unit in Karnataka.

The company’s cumulative installed green energy capacity has reached 2,024 MW. This includes 1,580 MW of renewable energy capacity and 444 MW of WHRS capacity, together meeting about 48 per cent of UltraTech’s current power requirements.

The milestone is part of UltraTech’s wider energy transition programme. During FY27, nearly a third of its 76 manufacturing units in India have maintained green energy utilisation above 50 per cent of their electricity requirements, while five units have exceeded 95 per cent.

UltraTech commissioned 430 MW of green energy capacity in FY26 and is expanding its renewable energy and WHRS portfolio. It is also progressively integrating Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across its operations to improve renewable energy utilisation and supply reliability.

In 2025, the company operationalised India’s first on-site hybrid round-the-clock renewable energy project at Sewagram Cement Works in Gujarat. The project combines solar power, wind energy and battery storage. As part of its decarbonisation strategy, UltraTech has not invested in new captive thermal power capacity for greenfield projects or brownfield expansions at its integrated units for more than ten years.

UltraTech has a total grey cement capacity of 210.1 mn tonnes per annum (MTPA) and white cement and putty capacity of 3.5 MTPA. It is the world’s largest cement company by sales volume outside China.
