The project will also address the congested and unorganised network of cables in older parts of the city, replacing them with systematically arranged wiring. Dilapidated infrastructure in overstressed areas will also be strengthened to enhance overall grid resilience.

Smart meters will be installed at commercial and residential premises as part of the upgrade. Darshan Singh said smart meters are efficient and help in diagnosing electrical faults, dismissing concerns that they lead to higher electricity bills. The meters will initially be installed at government offices and the homes of power board employees to build public confidence.
