UP Assures Uninterrupted Power Supply During Festive Season

The Uttar Pradesh government has intensified preparations to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply across the state during Dussehra, Diwali and Chhath. Villages and cities will remain illuminated on Dussehra on October 20, while instructions have been issued for 24-hour supply in districts, tehsils and rural areas.

The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) is strengthening electricity infrastructure across all five discoms. The work includes maintenance of power lines and related equipment, preventive measures to reduce tripping, and efforts to limit disruptions during the festive period. Departmental teams will remain on duty to maintain a safe and reliable supply.

UPPCL Managing Director Nitish Kumar said preparations covered villages, cities, municipal corporation areas and municipalities. Regular maintenance is underway in the Purvanchal, Madhyanchal, Paschimanchal and Dakshinanchal discom areas, with teams also trimming tree branches that come into contact with power lines.

The corporation is continuously monitoring electricity availability and demand across the state. It met demand of 22,540 MW on October 18, after meeting 23,738 MW on October 17 and 23,372 MW on October 16. Departmental data indicated that Uttar Pradesh had performed better than Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in meeting electricity demand.

Supply in rural and urban areas is being maintained beyond the prescribed rostering schedule, with monitoring prioritised across local networks. Teams in Purvanchal are working round the clock, while those in Madhyanchal, Paschimanchal and Dakshinanchal are maintaining power lines and associated equipment. Officials said maintenance, including the removal of branches near lines, was intended to reduce tripping risks and prevent inconvenience to consumers during the celebrations.
