The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a month long maintenance drive to bolster the electricity distribution network ahead of Navratri, Dussehra and Deepawali. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation will observe Maintenance Month from September 15 to October 14, 2026, and the Additional Chief Secretary for Energy and chairman of the corporation, Dr Ashish Kumar Goyal, has issued directions to managing directors of all distribution companies. The campaign is intended to ensure a robust, reliable and efficient supply during the festival period.

Officials said higher temperatures, increased load and monsoon storms have placed significant pressure on components of the distribution system, leading to faults in distribution transformers, feeders, 33 kV and 11 kV lines, and low tension lines in several areas. Repeated disruptions to supply have been reported and the maintenance drive aims to address these deficiencies and eliminate recurring feeder tripping and transformer damage.

During Maintenance Month all 33/11 kV substations, power transformers and distribution transformers will be inspected, cleaned and repaired, and recurring faults will be addressed through root cause analysis and permanent remedies. Worn wiring, loose connections and damaged equipment will be replaced, standard protective wires appropriate to transformer capacity will be fitted and temporary arrangements removed. Tree branches encroaching on power lines will be pruned on a priority basis and measuring instruments at feeders will be checked to assess supply reliability. Divisions have been directed to prepare area-wise action plans by September 10 and to arrange required materials in advance to avoid execution delays; shutdowns during festival days will be avoided where possible and any planned outages will be scheduled to minimise consumer inconvenience.

Strict monitoring will be implemented with managing directors and senior officers conducting unannounced inspections of substations and no prior disclosure of the inspection list in order to gauge the actual situation. Verification of works will take place between October 21 and October 27 at both corporation and headquarters levels and officers and employees have been urged to execute the campaign with dedication and hard work.
