Vedanta Ltd’s subsidiary, Meenakshi Energy Ltd (MEL), has fully operationalised its 1,000 MW thermal power plant located in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, within two years of its acquisition by the mining conglomerate.
According to a company statement, the project consists of two units of 350 MW and two units of 150 MW. Both 150 MW units were stabilised and commissioned earlier this year, while the two 350 MW units were successfully brought online this month, marking the plant’s complete commissioning.
MEL’s power generation capacity will not only provide reliable energy to industrial clusters in the surrounding region but also support India’s power grid with stable baseload electricity. The plant is expected to play a crucial role in bolstering the country’s energy security and supporting sustained industrial growth.
Rajinder Singh Ahuja, CEO – Power at Vedanta Ltd, stated, “This comeback reinforces our commitment to meeting India’s growing energy needs and marks a defining chapter in our journey to become the country’s most efficient and sustainability-driven power producer.”
