Vedanta deploys India’s first high-speed hydrostatic drill rig

Vedanta has commissioned India’s first high-speed hydrostatic portable drilling rig at two exploration projects in Chhattisgarh targeting gold, nickel, chromium and platinum group elements. Designed for difficult terrain, the rig can drill to depths of up to 1,000 metres, compared with the usual 300–400 metres. Its portability is expected to reduce relocation time and improve drilling efficiency. Vedanta currently holds 10 critical mineral blocks, with exploration under way across five blocks as part of its broader minerals strategy.
