Vizag MP Reviews Power Projects, Urges Push For PM Surya Ghar

Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament M. Sribharat reviewed district power projects and urged officials to enhance awareness of central renewable schemes to secure reliable and quality supply for farmers and households. The call was made at a meeting of the district electricity committee where he stressed the need to strengthen power infrastructure and improve electricity services across the region. He directed officials to respond promptly to consumer complaints and to work towards uninterrupted electricity supply in all mandals of the district.

Sribharat emphasised the promotion of the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM Surya Ghar) to expand rooftop solar installations so that more households can benefit from government subsidies and generate their own electricity. The scheme was described as a measure to reduce dependence on conventional power sources and to lower household electricity costs. He urged local authorities to undertake awareness campaigns and to facilitate timely installation and connection processes for eligible beneficiaries.

He also highlighted the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) as a key initiative to support solarisation in the agricultural sector, including the deployment of solar pumps for reliable irrigation power. The scheme was presented as a means to improve farmer access to clean energy and to enhance agricultural productivity by ensuring dependable power supply for irrigation. Officials were asked to prioritise farmer outreach and to streamline procedures for pump installation and subsidy release.

In reviewing infrastructure progress he examined underground cabling works, extra high tension lines, 33/11 kV substations, feeder stations, additional transformers and grid interlinking projects aimed at strengthening the distribution network. He urged acceleration of project implementation and strict adherence to scheduled timelines to ensure improved service reliability. He further called for effective implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme to reduce transmission and distribution losses and to expand smart metering and modernise the power system through detailed mapping and reporting.
