Waaree Energies plans to set up India’s largest 10 gigawatt (GW) integrated solar ingot and wafer facility in Nagpur, the company announced. The project will be located in Nagpur and will have an installed capacity of 10 GW. The company said the facility will bolster domestic supply of silicon wafers for photovoltaic manufacturing. The investment is Rs 6,200 crore, equivalent to about Rs 62,000 million (Rs 62,000 mn; Rs 62 bn).\n\nWaaree Energies said the integrated facility will combine ingot casting and wafer slicing to create upstream capability in the solar value chain. The plant will aim to reduce reliance on imports and to support module manufacturers in India. The development is presented as a response to supply chain constraints and rising domestic demand for solar components. The company said the investment will fund development of the manufacturing complex and associated infrastructure.\n\nThe 10 GW capacity is expected to strengthen the domestic upstream manufacturing base and to enable module makers to source wafers locally. By creating upstream capacity, the project should reduce logistics and procurement risks for developers and manufacturers.
