Hundred and thirty-one cities to be ranked on air-quality
01 Nov 2022 Editorial Team
Under the National
Clean Air Programme
2019 (NCAP), the
Ministry of Environment,
Forests, and Climate
Change (MoEFCC) plans
to launch the 'Swachh
Vayu Sarvekshan'
programme, which will
rank cities based on their
actions to improve air
quality. The Swachh Vayu
Sarvekshan will rank
131 cities in the country for
implementing City Action Plans
prepared as part of NCAP to reduce
air pollution by up to 40 per cent by
2025-26, the ministry reportedly
stated. The ranking will be based
solely on the actions taken by cities
to improve air quality in
various domains, rather than
on the measurement of
air quality parameters.
