BorgWarner has won a significant contract from a major Chinese original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to supply advanced electric motors for its new energy vehicle (NEV) lineup. The platform-based motor design supports a wide range of applications, including battery electric and hybrid models, and integrates BorgWarner’s ultra-short hairpin welding process for improved compactness and space efficiency.
“This contract represents another milestone in the growth of our electric motor business in China,” said Dr Stefan Demmerle, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, PowerDrive Systems. “Our near-decade-long partnership with this customer reflects our shared commitment to smarter, more efficient electrification solutions.”
As China’s NEV market accelerates, BorgWarner is expanding production capacity to meet increasing demand. In early 2025, the company signed an MoU with the Wuhu municipal government to build a new manufacturing base for electric drive systems. The facility, now nearing completion, will feature intelligent manufacturing lines capable of producing multiple motor platforms on shared lines, enabling scalable and efficient delivery.
