Elgi Equipments, a global leader in air compressor manufacturing, is marking 13 years of association with the Coimbatore Marathon, reaffirming its commitment to community health, wellness and social responsibility. As the Powered By partner, ELGi continues to support one of Coimbatore’s most prominent sporting and social impact events, which this year brought together more than 25,000 runners, including over 1,725 ELGi employees and their family members.
Organised by the Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF), the marathon was conceptualised to raise awareness about cancer and extend support to patients and their families. Over the years, the event has grown into a regional landmark, closely associated with cancer awareness and large-scale community participation. Proceeds from the marathon have enabled CCF to expand key initiatives such as early detection and screening camps, counselling and follow-up care, palliative services, treatment support and financial assistance covering surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, diagnostics, hospitalisation and rehabilitation.
“ELGi is privileged to power the Coimbatore Marathon for the 13th consecutive year and to partner once again with the Coimbatore Cancer Foundation for a cause that truly matters,” said Anvar Jay Varadaraj, Chief Operating Officer, Elgi Equipments Limited. He added that the strong participation of employees reflects the organisation’s shared commitment to cancer awareness, fitness and community care.
Ramesh Ponnuswami, Executive President – Operations and ELGi Business System, Elgi Equipments Limited, and Race Director, Coimbatore Marathon, highlighted the disciplined planning behind the event. “Beyond race day, our focus is on creating a safe, well-orchestrated, and enriching participant experience, leveraging technology, best practices, and the collective expertise of our teams,” he said.
The marathon features multiple race formats, including a 21.1 km Half Marathon, 10 km Run, 5 km Timed Run, 5 km Walk and a Corporate Relay, supported by comprehensive medical and safety infrastructure. Through its sustained association, ELGi continues to play a key role in promoting fitness while advancing cancer care and community well-being in Coimbatore.
