Liebherr Cranes by Riedel Bau AG Drive ULMICUM Project in Rostock

On the historic Ulmenstraße campus of the University of Rostock, the ULMICUM complex is taking shape, encompassing a library with seminar centre, administration offices, and institute facilities. Structural work began in June 2024, with completion scheduled for 2026. Contractor Riedel Bau AG is relying on two high-performance Liebherr EC-B series tower cranes to manage the demanding construction requirements.

The flat-top cranes support all construction phases, from wall formwork and concreting to the installation of prefabricated sections. Designed for fast assembly, easy operation and maintenance, and high lifting capacity at maximum reach, the EC-B series ensures smooth material flow, from truck unloading to millimetre-precise placement of formwork elements. Hook heights and jib lengths have been customised to meet site-specific needs.

Riedel Bau AG selected Liebherr cranes and service partner Beutlhauser for their reliability and responsive support. “We require short response times, competent troubleshooting, and expert guidance during complex assembly and dismantling operations,” said a company spokesperson. Beutlhauser’s regional presence ensures these expectations are consistently met.

The project presents special challenges, including stringent exposed concrete surface standards, restricted crane operation near a railway line, and proximity to listed buildings. Liebherr’s working range limitation system safeguards sensitive areas and historic structures, allowing safe and precise crane operation.

The two Liebherr cranes will remain on site until mid-2027, providing dependable support for interior works and façade installation throughout the construction of the ULMICUM complex.
