Liebherr has reached a major production milestone with the delivery of its 10,000th XPower wheel loader, now operating in the Schlag granite quarry of BERGER Rohstoffe GmbH in Passau, Bavaria. The ceremonial handover took place in May 2025 at Liebherr’s Bischofshofen plant in Austria, underscoring the brand’s legacy of reliability and innovation in quarry machinery.

At the quarry, BERGER Rohstoffe processes around 200,000 tonnes of Bayerwald granite annually for use in concrete and road construction. Since joining the fleet, the L 580 XPower wheel loader has proven its power and efficiency under demanding conditions.

The L 580 XPower performs multiple tasks at the site—from feeding coarse rock into crushers and stockpiling aggregates to loading finished material onto lorries. Working alongside a Liebherr R 934 crawler excavator, the wheel loader demonstrates high durability, low fuel consumption and excellent handling in rugged terrain.

Its XPower power-split travel drive combines hydrostatic and mechanical systems, automatically adapting to loading conditions. The hydrostatic drive suits short loading cycles, while the mechanical drive delivers power for long hauls and steep gradients—ensuring smooth acceleration, efficiency, and maximum productivity.

With powerful Z-kinematics delivering high torque at low lift-arm positions, the L 580 XPower enables faster bucket filling, making it ideal for heavy rock work. The robust design and durable components ensure longevity even under continuous, heavy-duty operation. An ergonomically designed cab with expansive glazing enhances safety, comfort, and visibility for operators.
