The Government of Andhra Pradesh announced enhanced incentives for IGBC-rated green buildings at the 2nd IGBC Green Andhra Summit 2026, as the state strengthened its push towards sustainable urban development and Net Zero growth.

Held in Vijayawada, the summit highlighted Andhra Pradesh's growing green building footprint, with 638 IGBC-registered projects covering 627.58 million sq ft. Of these, 300 projects spanning 479.60 million sq ft have received IGBC certification.

The state government introduced additional discounts on development charges for IGBC-certified projects. Silver-rated projects will receive a 5 per cent discount, Gold-rated projects 10 per cent, and Platinum-rated projects 15 per cent, over and above existing concessions on impact and AP RERA fees. The incentives will be available at the building permission stage based on pre-certification.

The summit also witnessed the release of the Guide for Green Buildings in Andhra Pradesh, a handbook developed by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) to support developers, architects and government agencies in adopting sustainable building practices.

Another key milestone was Amaravati receiving the IGBC Green Cities Platinum Certification (by design), reaffirming its position as a greenfield capital focused on sustainable urban planning.

Addressing the summit, Suresh Kumar S, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Government of Andhra Pradesh, said the state aims to make green buildings the norm through policy support. He noted that the additional investment required for green buildings is typically recovered through lower operating costs over the building's lifecycle.

The summit also recognised several projects for sustainable development, including the APCPDCL Vidyut Nilayam Corporate Office for achieving IGBC Net Zero Energy Rating (by design), Best Western Plus Tejvivaan for its IGBC Green Existing Building Gold Rating, and Sarda Metals & Alloys for its IGBC Green Factory Building Platinum Rating.

More than 40 new projects covering over 10 million sq ft were registered under the IGBC Green Crusaders initiative during the event, further expanding the state's green building pipeline.
