APSPDCL Reaches 100,000 Rooftop Solar Connections for SC/ST Homes

Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company (APSPDCL) has become the first power distribution company in Andhra Pradesh to reach 100,000 rooftop solar connections. The installations have been completed for homes belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families, marking a significant milestone in the State’s residential solar programme.

The connections have been delivered under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model, through which APSPDCL has brought the rooftop systems of SC and ST families into the electricity grid. Together, the systems have added 210 MW of solar generation capacity, according to details released by the company on September 30, 2026.

The achievement places Andhra Pradesh fourth among States in terms of solar installations, while APSPDCL is the first distribution company in the State to cross the 100,000-connection mark. The programme is focused on expanding access to rooftop solar among eligible households and aggregating installations so they can be connected and managed through the distribution network.

APSPDCL is now aiming to extend the programme to 207,000 homes across nine districts. The target represents the next phase of the ULA initiative and is expected to broaden the reach of rooftop solar among SC and ST families in the company’s service area. APSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Siva Sankar Lotheti and other officials inspected a rooftop solar panel in Tirupati in connection with the milestone.

The 100,000 connections reflect the combined capacity of individual rooftop systems rather than a single solar facility. By linking these systems to the grid, APSPDCL is integrating distributed generation into its network while supporting the adoption of renewable energy at household level. The company’s latest target indicates that the ULA model will remain central to its efforts to increase rooftop solar installations across the nine districts.
