Building owners and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in Uttar Pradesh have been granted six months to register their lifts with the district administration under the new UP Lift Act, as announced by district magistrate Manish Verma on Tuesday.
The decision follows the first meeting of a district-level committee established to oversee lift safety compliance. "Non-compliance will result in penalties, and lifts will be decommissioned after a 30-day grace period," said DM Verma, who also emphasized that lift manufacturers must register under the Act.
The district administration will issue a notification next week, and owners who fail to comply could face fines ranging from ?100 to ?10,000. For lift-related accidents, complaints can be filed with the ADM (finance and revenue), with investigations led by a team of experts.
