The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) – Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), in collaboration with the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), unveiled a landmark report, SUSTAINABLE WORKSPACE – Catalyst for Productivity and Profitability in Indian Businesses, at the CII Green Business Centre, Hyderabad.
Supported by IIM Ahmedabad, the multi-year research shows that sustainable workplaces enhance employee engagement, well-being and organisational performance. Based on 75 case studies, 1,100 occupant responses across six cities, and over 900 data points, the study offers robust, data-driven evidence.
Key findings show that a 1 per cent rise in the Green Index lifts employee thriving by 3 per cent, engagement by 2 per cent and well-being by 3 per cent. Improved indoor environment quality (temperature, lighting, noise, humidity and CO₂) was found to boost vitality, learning, retention and innovation.
H.E. Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, Ambassador of Denmark, said, “Denmark is delighted to partner with India in advancing the agenda of sustainable and people-centric development… The launch of the DI and CII-IGBC report on Sustainable Workspaces is yet another milestone in this journey.”
The report provides actionable guidance for developers, business leaders, policymakers, architects, ESG investors and urban planners, urging adoption of measurable green metrics, improved IEQ and evidence-based tools to drive both productivity and profitability.
