Cyclone Tauktae: Five-storey building collapses in Ahmedabad
A landfall occurred between Diu and Una town of Gir Somnath district in Gujarat at 1:30 am on Tuesday due to extremely severe cyclonic storm Tauktae. 45 people have lost their lives in cyclone related incidents in Gujarat.
The cyclone has severely damaged the state's coastal areas. Thousands of trees were destroyed, and over 69,000 electric poles and lots of trees were uprooted. The standing summer crops were also severely hit. Cattle deaths were also reported. Over 674 roads were closed, and 5,000 villages in the state experienced a power failure.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani assured the citizens on Tuesday that the government will take a quick survey of the damages caused by the cyclone and provide assistance accordingly. He also said that the cash doles will be paid as per government norms.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took an aerial survey on Wednesday of the areas affected by the cyclone in the state. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to be given to the kin of those who lost their lives in the cyclone in all the affected areas. The injured will be given Rs 50,000.
