Officials from the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) announced on Friday that the ongoing household survey to determine resident eligibility for resettlement will conclude on 12 August.

Launched in March 2024, the door-to-door survey aims to identify those eligible for government-supported housing under the redevelopment scheme. After the cut-off date, field visits will end, but residents can still be included by calling the DRP helpline and presenting the necessary documentation in person.

A DRP official assured that submissions made post-deadline will be reviewed and added to the records after verification.

Residents who can prove they lived in Dharavi before 1 January 2000 are entitled to a 350 sq ft flat within the redeveloped township. Those who settled between 1 January 2000 and 1 January 2011 qualify for 300 sq ft units outside Dharavi under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), either on rent or at subsidised prices.

So far, over 110,000 tenements and plots have been surveyed. The project envisions mapping and reconstructing around 120,000 tenements across Dharavi and other areas including Kurla, Mulund, Kanjurmarg, Bhandup, and Malad. Households not covered by 12 August will be considered as having opted out unless they apply later.

Survey completion remains pending in a few areas such as Kumbharwada and Compound 13, as well as certain private lands. Officials urged residents in these zones to contact the helpline and submit documents for inclusion.

The Maharashtra cabinet recently approved provisions to rehabilitate commercial tenants operating from Dharavi, even if they do not own their premises. These traders will be accommodated within the 10 per cent commercial space allocated in the redevelopment complexes.
